The Things I Love To See and Do In Antarctica

Antarctica truly is one of those places that you will never forget once you visit there and I wanted to talk about what I love about visiting there. This once in a lifetime destination has so many different things to do and see and I wanted to share some of these with you today. So read on to find out more about what you can look forward to in Antarctica.

This is a great thing to do because it gets you off your cruise ship and gets you closer to your surroundings. Think about all that ice that your cruise ships breaks apart, in a kayak this becomes an interesting obstacle that you need to navigate. It also gives you a chance to interact more with the wildlife. Imagine my surprise when I saw four seals relaxing on a large chunk of ice behind an iceberg! You would never know that the animals are there and it is great to get up close and personal with them.

This is the best place in the world (yes, the very best) place in the world to photograph. The stunning landscape is something that you aren’t going to see anywhere else around the world. The ice there, for example, is unlike anything I have ever seen before. Can you imagine the ice that comes out of your freezer? It’s white and clear, but the ice in Antarctica is the deepest blue and it looks absolutely surreal. This is the time to break the budget and buy the best camera that you can afford, because these photos are going to be the most memorable that you will likely ever take in your life. It’s also a good idea to be wary of some other camera related accessories that you should take with you and you can find out more info here.

Sleep on the continent

Did you know that there are a number of cruise ships that don’t even let you get off the ship? This to me doesn’t make sense, so you need to ensure you are on one that allows you to do this, because you definitely want to sleep on Antarctica. It isn’t going to be a luxury experience by any means, but it was a great experience for me. I thought long and hard about the explorers like Mawson and Scott, who had done this a long time ago and I appreciated the sacrifices they made to try and reach the South Pole first. This is also the bragging right that none of your friends are going to be able to top (aside from climbing Mount Everest of course).

The Wildlife

The wildlife to me is one of the best things about Antarctica and seeing all the animals there makes the trip to the end of the earth worth every second. You can see a huge number of penguins, including the majestic Emperor penguin. There are also many species of birds, whales and seals that are an absolute delight to see. You can find out more info about the amazing wildlife that you are likely to see there.
