As soon as the tinsel comes out and the Christmas songs start playing in department stores, we all know it: the Christmas season is upon us. For many people, that means a joyful time of year, filled with all the festivities we know and love. For others, it means several stressful weeks of shopping and decorating the house for all those Christmas parties. But decorating for Christmas doesn’t have to be a stressful process. With a few simple tips, you can have your home looking ready for the holidays in no time.
Stick with traditions
Do you have some favorite decorations, lights or ornaments that you love to bring out every year? Having holiday traditions is what makes Christmas time so festive. Your family will love to see the same decorations brought out year after year, especially if you have kids. If you collect Christmas ornaments, tell the story behind each one as you put it on the tree. Another great tradition idea is having an advent calendar that your kids can open each day that gets closer to Christmas. Advent calendars come in all varieties, from little cardboard pop-open windows, to large a Christmas tree where they can pin on a new ornament for each day of December.
Making your own Christmas decorations is one of the most fun ways to get your home ready for the holidays. If you have kids, they are probably already making tons of decorations at school which you can place around the house. They’ll love to see you bring out their old projects year after year, too! You can create your own stockings with kits from the craft store, make beaded snowflakes to hang in the windows, paint glasses and bowls, make your own wreath with ribbons, pinecone and hot glue… and the list goes on. There are tons of resources you can find online for inspiration.
Don’t forget about lights
If you only go with one Christmas decoration of them all, it has to be Christmas lights! These will add twinkle, sparkle and festiveness to your home during the holidays. You can hang Christmas lights outside on your roof, or choose to decorate the garden, or whatever you like. LED Christmas lights are a great option for decorating your home.
